What's been going on?

This group is not meeting at the moment, however, our training courses are being very well received. We run a weekend workshop monthly at the Roundhay Road Resource Centre, 233-237 Roundhay Road, Leeds, LS8 4HS.

We are teaching Focusing and our particular interest at present is using Focusing when working with people who are suffering from the effects of trauma. Our workshops explore the effects of trauma and how it becomes lodged in the body. Focusing is a very helpful method of locating the seat of the trauma in the body and integrating it into the normal brain/body functioning.

Anyone attending these courses will gain a good grounding in Focusing skills.

The workshops are:
  • Introduction to Trauma using the Body Oriented Approach (FOT)
  • Working with Adults Complex Trauma Work
  • Working with Adult Survivors of Childhood Trauma
  • Working with Nightmares and Dreams
Anyone wishing to receive a Certificate in Advanced Focusing Skills will need to attend all four of these courses, plus a further course to demonstrate skills and keep a log of 60 focusing sessions.

A Focusing Professional Certificate and a Focusing Trainer Certificate from the Focusing Institute can be gained with further study.  Please contact Celia Dawson or Dzmitry Karpuk for information

Celia is happy to work with anyone on a one-to-one basis. Focusing can be done easily via Skype or on the telephone, as well as face-to-face. Please contact her on celiaanndawson@hotmail.com or phone 07952 692639.

Dreamwork

Dreamwork

Dreams bring us very important information from our subconscious. Studying and interpreting our dreams can be very helpful indeed in changing bad habits or making important decisions. There are many books on interpretation of dream images but they are not always helpful. Everyone is different and what may have significance to one person may mean something completely different to another.

We use a variety of different approaches to working with dreams. Quite often it is simply possible to address each person or thing in a dream and to ask what they represent. We can also look at each item and consider what its meaning might be in ordinary life. Eugene Gendlin has written a comprehensive book on the focusing approach to dreams, using the felt sense of the dream to determine its meaning. The Focusing approach is very helpful when working with nightmares because the dream can be worked with without the necessity of going into the story of the dream, which can trigger the extreme effects of traumatic memories.

The metaphors in dreams bring us meanings on many different levels and working with dreams is a fascinating study.
